Lady Anion Far-IR sanitary pads combine a layered absorbent design with a specialty Far-IR and anion component. When deciding whether they suit you, start with the same practical questions you would ask of any period pad: Does the size match your body? Is the absorbency right for your flow? Does it stay comfortable and secure?
Choose by flow and coverage
Flow can change across your period, so one size may not suit every day. Use lighter coverage when bleeding is low and a longer or more absorbent pad when you need it. Extra length can be helpful overnight or if you tend to leak at the front or back.
Healthdirect advises changing a pad about every 4 hours or when it is full. Change sooner if the surface feels wet, the pad starts to leak or your skin feels uncomfortable.
Check the fit
Centre the pad in the gusset of clean, dry underwear and press the adhesive firmly into place. Fold wings around the sides if the product has them. The pad should lie flat without pulling, bunching or extending into an area where the edges rub.
Understand the materials
A layered pad generally includes a soft topsheet, fluid transfer layers, an absorbent core, a leak-resistant backsheet and adhesive. Lady Anion describes an additional Far-IR and negative-ion component within this construction.
FIR is part of the infrared spectrum, while negative ions are electrically charged particles. Research into active FIR devices, FIR-emitting garments and airborne ions does not establish that a sanitary pad balances hormones, detoxifies the body, prevents infection or changes vaginal pH. These features should not be treated as medical therapy.
Comfort for sensitive skin
If you are prone to irritation, choose an unscented product, change regularly and avoid perfumed soaps or wipes around the vulva. Stop using a pad if it causes persistent redness, itching or soreness. A different surface, adhesive or shape may suit you better.
When to speak with a doctor
Seek advice if you need to change a pad every 1 to 2 hours, bleed for more than 8 days, feel dizzy or short of breath, or pass clots larger than a 50-cent coin. See a health professional for unusual discharge, strong odour, burning, pelvic pain or ongoing irritation.
